I was reading that themes can impact many things on a Wordpress blog and one place I read that the theme can affect the SEO of your blog. Is this true or maybe just something someone thinks?

Yah a quality theme can get you more traffic in your blog due to some features that is been installed in them and flexibility of the theme that can also get Google interested in the blog ... I recommend places like "THEMEFOREST" they have nice themes with SEO options try them out

So if my theme isn't particularly SEO friendly I might lose some traffic and google ranking due to that?

Wordpress themes only affect on-page SEO, nothing more than that. But some of them may come with built in options to have your links indexed, submitted to different directories, etc. It's as simple as that.

The way a theme organizes different Wordpress pages will definitely affect it's on-page SEO. It all depends on what theme it is and if you are using any other SEO plugins.

many WordPress themes like Genesis and Thesis come with built-in SEO options, and if you are using the Theme's SEO feature, chances are high that your blog’s SEO will be affected.
I did not know that some themes had built-in SEO options. Are those found on the Wordpress website?

some people said that some of the themes have SEO options built-in. If I use one of those themes then do I still need an SEO plugin?

Hello ana the SEO behind this themes am talking about is the fact that they a have some features that can help you rank well on search engines like being user friendly and also having a lot of places for a user to view on the blog making the site or blog not to look bored to users,

And know it that when users spend more time on your blog this can rank your blog because search engines will have it that users love your blog and at thesame time loving your contents,..

When you back your quality theme with a quality content know it that your site will ranks well on search engines,

when you buy this themes it doesn't mean you will not download some plug in, you still have to download some plugins to your blog...

Hope this helps

I don't think themes affect SEO of a wordpress site. SEO is search engine optimization, which is based on keyword usage on the content and backlinking to the site. Theme can make or break the site because Themes determine how the site will look, how easy is to navigate the site, ad spots etc. therefore, themes affect traffic and money, however, theme is not associated with seo. Some themes come with inbuilt seo features, however, these features are just a guide to improve the traffic.

Well, yes and no. Google does check for mobile compatibility and the overall flexibility of the design, as proven by Google PageSpeed Insights. For instance, they check for font size to be readable on mobile devices. Based on such results, pages can be labelled as mobile-friendly or not, and this does change your SEO rank.
However, that's as far as it goes. As long as a theme is functional, it will be as good as any other theme to Google. Some themes may be better optimized with metatags and whatnot, but most of them will be equally fine.

Well WordPress themes have little impact on your site SEO. A poorly designed WordPress theme can slow down your site and also vulnerable to hacking. I always prefer to using Premium themes as you will get frequent updates and quality support which free theme lacks.

In some ways a theme can affect the SEO of your site but there are many things that can affect the SEO for a site. If a theme is poorly coded, has a lot of bloat, isn't mobile ready and/or optimized then those things can affect the SEO
of a site.

Most of the good theme developers take things into consideration and try to help optimize they themes so that they can not make a negative impact on a site.

I would be more worried about using an older or outdated theme as far as an SEO impact coming from a theme.

Yes the themes can affect the seo of your site. If they are slow for loading or are not mobile compatible themes then that can hurt the seo and the rankings for your site. I changed themes on my blog from the one I was first using and it made my blog almost 3 seconds faster and that helps your seo and ranks.

Anything on your site that is code can potentially affect the SEO of your website. A wordpress theme is no different and if a theme is poorly coded then that can affect the SEO for many different reasons.

That's one reason why you want to use a theme that is from a good developer. Some of the smaller and never heard of developers are just not good at making a theme with good clean code and that can have an affect of your SEO.

Everything on your website has the potential to affect the SEO for your website. That includes the themes because they are often coded by people that know coding but not SEO so they don't account for SEO bests.

I did not know they had feature like that built in to the themes. I thought that you needed a plugin for that. Thank you.

How do I know if a theme is mobile compatible?

Almost everything on a website has the potential to affect it's SEO but many things will not have big impacts. If a theme you use has poor programming and doesn't use the best code then it could affect the speed or some of the functions of the site and that could affect SEO.

Most of the good theme developers should be using good programming methods so any kind of affect should be small one way or another.
