Is guest blogging good or bad for SEO?

Guest blogging is good especially for a topic that needs expert input,so instead of writing out of context or mis- informing the public or your readers It better someone else write that as a visitor or a guest.

Yeah, I'd be wary about that as well. Again, Google can only look for perfect matches and favour one of the two (or several) websites with that same content, I guess its algorithms will probably pick the one with highest traffic. As long as you only quote your post back on your personal website and put a few quotes here and there, you shouldn't run into any trouble.

I am just also worried that if a post is original when it gets posted on my blog then the same person goes and posts it on another without changing anything. Google might think I am having duplicate content and giving me a penalty.

I'm pretty sure Google keeps track of the date a page was posted on, so you probably won't have to worry about that: otherwise, any website could be damaged by people copying its content and uploading it elsewhere, right?

Yeah I think I saw something about the time google first crawls a page now that you mention that.

It will probably help out the people that are guest blogging on your blog with their own blogs more than it will help yours since you would probably be giving them a link to their blog from the posts.

I have not done it yet but yes I was going to give them 2 links back to their blogs. I thought it would help my blog because of having more authors and more posts.

I think that it would probably only help your if they were giving a link back to your blog also. Plus the extra content also.

Most of the guest blogging that I have seen are basically just giving a link to the author to their site but not a return link.

That would be more along the lines of being a link exchange.
